By Dewey Terrill ~ Junction City Post

The Geary County Sherriff’s Department confirms Brian Hansen, 57, of Maple Grove, Minnesota sustained shotgun wounds while turkey hunting in the county Friday morning.

He was taken by private vehicle following the shooting  to Geary Community Hospital and then by ambulance to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. His condition is not being released at Stormont Vail.

The sheriff’s department confirmed Hansen was shot two times with a 12 gauge shotgun and suffered multiple pellet wounds to his right side as a result. The incident occurred while Hansen was turkey hunting with a friend from Minnesota in a wooded area near Dundin Road northeast of U.S. 77 Highway in a public hunting area.

Geary County Undersheriff Tony Wolf confirmed this was an accidental shooting. “Everybody was legal. Everybody had all their tags, hunting licenses….everything was above board. This was just a real bad accident.”
