Whew, I’ve got a lot to tell y’all about this time. Let’s start with the fantastic scrimmage that we had down in Emporia against the Veteran City Rollergirls. All the action went down on April 28, and it was a wonderful reminder of why we all work our derby butts off in practice. The teams were evenly matched, and the roller rink venue offered a floor built for big hits. The unofficial final score was VCR 141 and Sirens 110. In the world of roller derby, that is a tight game. We left with our heads held high, and proud of all the bruises we gave and took! We would like to thank our hosts for the awesome welcome baskets, and the food they provided to us after the game. The enthusiasm that these women brought to the track and the after party, left us feeling very welcomed. And we cannot wait to see them a! gain!
Speaking of welcoming people, one of our Sirens has her own non profit organization called Hearts of America. Their mission is to provide care packages to our soldiers, and to welcome them home after their tours. On May 12th, this Hearts of America will be holding a poker run. And the Salina Sirens will be at Midway Motors in McPherson to wash down the bikes. We love our soldiers and are grateful for their sacrifices and duty to our country. Anything we can do to help them, is our duty as roller girls and Americans. Registration starts at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m. at Harley Davdidson & Honda of Salina, KS. We will see you there!
Also in the works for the month of May, OUR FIRST HOME BOUT!!!! Yep, that’s right, Sunday May 20th, at 5:00 p.m. you will all finally get to see what these girls are made of. We will be matched up against The Stone Cold Foxes from Junction City. These girls have given us a run for our money before, but we’re stronger than ever and we are ready for them now. Afternoon DeFight will take place in the 4-h building at 900 Greeley. Get your tickets now for $8 or $10 at the door. You can purchase them from Pizza Hut on Santa Fe, Ad Astra Books & Coffee House, Sunset Billiards, or one of your local roller girls. Kids 5 to 10 are $5, 4 and under are free. Don’t miss your first chance to see what you Sirens are all about. And don’t forget to bring a chair!
