James Odell Cruce, 89, of Salina, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2012. He was born in Fulton, Ky., on Jan. 21, 1923, a son of Ray and Georgia (Ingram) Cruce.James attended Salina High School and joined the Navy in 1942. He served in the 8th Navy Sea Bees Unit during World War II in Alaska and the Philippines. He owned and operated Cruce Produce for 43 years and retired in 1995.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, William Boyd, Glen, Austin, Bobby Jo, Billy Lee and J.W. He is survived by his sons, James R. Cruce, of Wichita, and Jamie (Amy) Cruce, of Lindsborg; and daughters, Stephanie (Marcus) Silmon and Leslie (Eric) Clayton, of Salina. James has three sisters, Jean Ludes, Mary Rogers and Betty Stallcup; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a large extended family. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, where the family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday afternoon, May 11, at the mortuary. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina. Memorials are suggested to Salina VFW Post No. 1432 or First Presbyterian Church. |
