Man Shot By Deputy In Junction City In Stable Condition

The man shot in a weekend incident outside Club Eve in Junction City has been identified by the Geary County Sheriff’s Department as Stefon Butler, 25, of Junction City. Undersheriff Tony Wolf said Butler was shot in the abdomen area. He is reported in stable condition at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.

Wolf reported once the KBI finishes their investigation, the case will be presented to the county attorney for his review. Authorities have confirmed it was a Geary County sherriff’s officer who fired the shot in this case. Wolf said the officer is on administrative leave.

The sheriff’s office said their deputies were assisting Junction City police with monitoring the parking lot at closing when a disturbance broke out. Butler fled behind the building where deputies from the sheriff’s department were located. He allegedly produced a firearm in an aggressive manner, and was shot one time.

Following the shooting Butler was transported to Geary Community Hospital and then airlifted by Life Star to Stormont Vail Hospital.
