The Salina Police Department was busy the last couple of weeks handing out tickets for people not wearing seat belts.

Lt. Russ Lamer says officers handed out 258 citations for drivers and passengers not wearing seat belts.

6 tickets were issued for not having children restrained in child safety seats or seat belts.

Lamer said officers put in just over 80 hours of overtime during the “Click it or Ticket” campaign from May 21st to June 1st.

In addition to 0fficers made 7 arrest for other issues including two for driving under the influence.

Lamer said there were not seat belt check lanes, but rather undercover officers would see seat belt violators and radio information to other officers .

Violators were also stopped during routine traffic patrols, and officers would stand at intersections like Crawford and Ohio, looking for violators as vehicles would stop for traffic signals .

Lamer said he was disappointed that more people are not buckled up.
