Two of Salina’s American Legion Baseball teams are on the road this weekend for tournaments.  The Falcons who won their first Pool Play Game yesterday in the Battle for Omaha  split in day two and the Salina Eagles opened up the Twinbill tournament in Andover by going 1 and 1 as well.

The Falcons (14-2) Game One was against the Florida Rays who is not a Legion Team, but a selective traveling baseball squad.  Salina fared well with a team that all ready has four players selected in the most recently Major League Baseball Draft.  They took the lead in the in the third inning after the first two inning were scoreless going up 1-0, but that’d be the only run for the Falcons as the Rays would score the next seven winning 7-1.  The Falcons regrouped for a Game Two win over Rapid City (S.D.) 5-2, behind the arm and bat of two Sacred Heart products.  Daniel O’Brien (4-0) pitched a complete game giving up just two runs all coming in the same inning.  Blake Jones broke the 2-2 tie in the fourth with a bases loaded double picking up three runs.

The Falcons still have two games left in Pool Play.  Salina will play Omaha Bryan at 8 a.m. and Onieda, Ill at 10:30.

The Salina Eagles (13-6) won the first game and lost the second.  Wellington who committed numerous errors, 11 to be exact helped the Eagles pick up the 8-4.  To go along with the 11 errors given up by Wellington, the Eagles as well posted up 10 hits.  Game Two was a close game, but the Eagles could not get over the hump losing 8-6.  Eagles were up by three runs, 4-1 heading into the fifth inning, but a five error inning lead to five runs by Clearwater taking the 6-4 lead.  Both teams would each had two more runs in the final two innings.

Eagles have one game today which is at 10 a.m. against Hays.
