Charlie Irving Cole, 71, of Salina, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012. He was born Nov. 15, 1940, in Salina, to Irving H. “Hank” and H. Lee (Gowens) Cole.

Charlie loved life, but most of all he loved his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to him. He had worked for the city of Salina at the central garage as a mechanic for approximately 40 years before he retired. In the early years, Charlie had a passion for music. He played guitar and sang in a band. He loved to fish, go camping and working with his hands.

He often used his creative woodworking skills to build many items such as his famous horse-drawn wagon. He also had a passion for his cars and motorcycles with his last truck becoming “his baby.”

Charlie lived to be one of the richest men in the world because he had everything one could ask for. He had a family and friends who loved him completely. Charlie passed away quickly and peacefully. He will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, LeRoy Davis; and two sisters, Virginia Bell and Harriet Seal.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Carolyn Cole; sister, Carol Gross; daughter, Kathy Muir; son, Kenneth Cole; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, July 6, where the family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m., all at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. A celebration of Charlie’s life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the mortuary. The conclusion of the service will be at Indian Rock Park, Salina. The family requests funeral attendants to wear bright colors.

Vicente Castaneda, 42, of Salina, died Friday, June 29, 2012. He was born July 19, 1969, in Miguel Auza, Zacatecas, Mexico, the son of Rodolfo and Ernestina Castaneda.

Vicente was employed by the Solomon Corp. of Solomon.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jesus Castaneda.

Survivors include his wife, Celena Yadira Castaneda, of Salina; son, Vicente Castaneda; daughter, Grecia Castaneda; his parents; four brothers, Rodolfo, Domingo, Juan and Jerardo; seven sisters, Esparanza, Silvia, Ma del Socorro, Ma del Carmen, Ma de los Angeles, Concepcion and Maricela.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2012, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina. Burial will be at Zacatecas, Mexico. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Cathedral with vigil service at 7 p.m. Memorials to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Ryan Mortuary, Salina, is handling arrangements.
