The Salina Falcons won one and loss one in a triangular of baseball at Dean Evans Saturday, getting clipped by Ottawa County and trouncing Newton.

The Falcons opened up with Ottawa County Saturday morning.  Salina had beaten Ottawa the night before 16-5, but that did not carry over to the next day.  The Falcons made two costly mistakes that led to a rally by Ottawa.  Salina had its first error of the game in the fifth which trimmed their lead from 2-0 to 2-1.

Leading 3-1 after a Alexis Nevarez single scored a run Ottawa took advantage of another Salina error.  The error extended the seventh inning and lead to three runs scoring putting the Falcons in a 4-3 deficit and ultimately leading to their loss.

Robert James (2-1) got the no decision and Daniel O’Brien took the loss.

The bounce back kids of the Salina Falcons run ruled the team from Newton, just two hours after losing a close one run game to Ottawa County.

Mark Vaughn drove in six runs making it 10 in the last three games.  Mason Brightbill continued to swing his hot bat going 3 of 3 with a double and a triple.  Brightbill now has four extra base hits in their last three games.

Both Vaughn and Brightbill struck early in the bottom half of the first inning.  A two run triple and a two run double lead to a 4-0 lead right out of the gates.

With four more runs added in the fourth with another triple by Vaughn and a triple by Brightbill put the Falcons up 9-1.  Falcons tacked the last run of the day when Brightbill scored on a Keenan Breen sacrifice fly.

Blake Jones (3-2) got the win allowing just five hits and striking out and striking out four in five innings of productivity.

The Salina Falcons (24-8) have one more home double header before going away from Salina for one double header.  Salina will play host to Hays Tuesday July 1o at Matson Field first pitch at 6 p.m.
