UPDATE: The situation on the east side of Hutchinson is under control and the residents that were evacuated as a precaution were allowed to go home just after 5:30 p-m.

An area just east of K-61 in Hutchinson, including 3rd Street, Hoagland and Porter were blocked off after Hutchinson Haz-Mat crews responded to a situation involving a man mixed several chemicals together creating a dangerous situation inside his home.
Police say it started last night when Michael Allstedt of 1415 east 3rd Avenue was taken into custody for possession of stolen property regarding a stolen automobile out of Wichita. At that time Ahlstedt had made comments about chemicals being around his home.
A subsequent search turned up little to alarm authorities, but just before 8 am, the Haz-mat Team was called out to the residence again when Ahlstedt allegedly mixed muriatic acid and bleach together, creating a cloud of chlorine gas.
Ahlstedt was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for observation.
UPDATE: The situation was made more complex when Ahlsteadt made comments about explosive devices and booby traps in the home. The Wichita Bomb Squad has been called in and robots were being used to scan the house for dangerous items.
