Henry S. Dreher Jr., M.D., of Salina, passed away on Wednesday July 11, 2012. Henry was born on Sept. 4, 1918, in Natoma, to Eva Beeson Dreher and Henry S. Dreher Sr., M.D.
Henry graduated from Luray High School in 1936. He attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence and was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1943.
Upon completion of his internship at Cook County Hospital, Chicago, Henry was commissioned as a junior medical officer in the U.S. Navy. He served on LST 505, which was part of the June 6, 1944, D-Day Invasion of Omaha Beach in Normandy, France.
Upon returning from the service in 1949, Henry joined the Mowery Clinic in Salina, where he practiced internal medicine until his retirement in 1994.
Henry was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Burch Dreher, and his brother, Warren Dell Dreher.
He is survived by his beloved partner, Jody Anderson, M.D., of Salina; his brother, Richard L. Dreher, M.D.. of Leawood; sons and daughters-in-law, Henry S. Dreher III (Linda), of Vass, N.C., and David B. Dreher (Lydia), of Shawnee; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann Richardson (Steve), of Hutchinson, and Carody Wise (Jim), of Lake Quivira; grandchildren, Lisa Kysela, of Winchester, Va., Jeffrey Richardson, of Prairie Village, Carolyn Richardson, of Portland, Ore., Adrienne Dreher, of Prairie Village, Paul Dreher, of Kansas City, Mo., Benjamin Wise, of Mission, Sally Wise, of Prairie Village, and Conor Dreher, of Shawnee; and great-grandchildren, Brant Bell, of Winchester, Thomas Lisenby, of Prairie Village, and Henry (Hank) Lisenby, of Prairie Village.
Henry was instrumental in establishing hospice care in Salina. He served as medical adviser to what is now Hospice of Salina, one of the first hospice organizations in Kansas. He served as chairman of the Kansas Blue Shield Board from 1972 to 1974. He also was a founding donor of the Greater Salina Community Foundation.
Henry was grateful to Salina and the surrounding community for a long, rewarding medical practice and a full life.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina. Burial will be private.

Vivian D. Rundell, 82, of Salina, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina. She was born May 16, 1930, in Halstead to Benjamin and Ella C. (Decker) Nightengale.
She was an emergency room technician at the former Asbury Hospital, Salina, for more than 25 years, retiring in 1985. She married Lawrence Rundell on Aug. 10, 1947, in Halstead. They spent their early years in western Kansas before moving to Salina in 1961. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Salina, as well as the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Salina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, in 1993, and son, Larry, in 2009. Survivors include her sons, Steven (Kelly) Rundell, of Salina, and Randy Rundell, of Wichita; daughter, Teresa Rundell, of Salina; two daughters-in-law, Rosie Rundell, of Manhattan, and Debbie Rundell, of Kimberling City, Mo.; brothers, Bob, of Corcoran, Calif., and John, of Halstead; sisters, Joan Cohen, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Della Walker, of Naperville, Ill.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Cremation has been chosen, and there will be no visitation. Graveside service: 10 a.m. Friday, July 13, at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina, with the Rev. James Hawley officiating. Memorials to Hospice of Salina, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401.
