Obituary 15 September, 2012

 

Laura N. Fletcher, 33, of Salina, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, after a long battle with cancer. Mrs. Fletcher was born Laura Piedra Nunez on Oct. 18, 1978, in San Antonio, to Raymond Gutierez Nunez and Gloria Piedra Nunez.

Laura had worked for True Value Hardware, Durham School Services, Brown and Brown Construction and Salina Blue Print over the past several years. She was also very active in her children’s lives, including their school activities. She was a member of the Mama Knights and The Saced Heart Cathedral Ladies Guild, and had volunteered at St. Mary’s Grade School. Laura was an active advocate for the Shriners Children’s Hopsitals, helping to arrange care for sick children.

She is survived by her husband, James C. “Jim,” of the home; sons, James Thomas Nunez Fletcher and Brandon Michael Nunez Fletcher, of the home; daughter, Janie Rae Nunez Fletcher, of the home; parents, Raymond and Gloria Nunez, of Pratt; maternal grandmother, Severra Flores Piedra, of San Antonio; a brother, Raymond Piedra Nunez, of Kansas City, Kan.; sisters, Sandra Nunez Lobato, of Seldon, Kan., and Delicia Nunez Timm, of Pratt; and many nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Ninth and Iron Avenue, Salina with Father Frank Coady as Celebrant.

Burial will follow in the All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Salina.

A vigil service was held Friday evening at the cathedral.

Memorials are suggested to the Laura Fletcher Children’s Educational Fund, in care of the family. Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina, is in charge of arrangements.
