NCAA League Preview: Week 4

Week 3 for the NCAA League schools was another week with few surprises, but that will change tonight. The NCAA will heat up with 4 of the top 5 schools playing each other. At the same time, the bottom two teams will play each other. We should be able to get a feel for how the NCAA will fall this football season after tonight.

Minneapolis (2-1) @ Southeast of Saline (2-1)

In what could be the best game featuring NCAA schools this week, the Lions of Minneapolis hope to ruin homecoming for the Trojans. SES got back on track last week in Whitewater, defeating the Remington Broncos 46-8. The Trojans started their third quarterback in 3 games, as Keenan Breen had three rushing touchdowns and two passing td’s. The SES defense continued to be strong, forcing three turnovers.

Minneapolis will hope to rebound from a loss to the #1 team in Class 2A, the LaCrosse Leopards, last week at home 39-7. The Lions have gone through a similar situation as SES with quarterback Matt Comfort injured early in their week 2 game versus Washington County. Comfort should be back tonight to face the Trojans.

Countdown to Kick-off will get things started tonight at 6:30 on 99KG and Salina Post.

Beloit (3-0) @ Sacred Heart (3-0)

This game will feature the two unbeaten teams in the NCAA. The Trojans have rolled through their first 3 games and have outscored their competition 188-8. BHS added another victim last week, pounding Russell 84-0. Beloit looks to be one of the strongest teams in class 3A in the state and hasn’t been challenged…yet.

Sacred Heart is off to great start as well. The Knights had one of the most entertaining games in the state last week, holding off Sedgwick in overtime by a score of 31-28. The Knights never trailed in that game, and a combination of Cardinal turnovers and a Tymony Bonilla field goal proved too much for Sedgwick to overcome.

Russell (0-3) @ Republic County (0-3)

So far, Russell and Republic County have had a tough road to travel. Russell was on the wrong end of an 84-0 score last week versus Beloit and Republic County lost by 30 to Ellsworth, 49-19. Both teams are 0-3 and all 6 of those combined losses have been NCAA League losses. The biggest challenge in this game could be having enough players to field a team.

Ellsworth (2-1) @ TMP-Marian (1-2)

Ellsworth will be the odd school out of league this week, as they travel to Hays to play on the artificial turf. Ellsworth has been a pleasant surprise in the last two weeks, including a 49-19 win over Republic County last week. The Bearcats seem like they have settled in with first year Head Coachg Tyler Hampton.

TMP has lost 2 in a row after winning versus Ellinwood in the opener. The last 2 weeks have been a challenge for the Monarchs, playing Clay Center in week 2 and losing last week to an undefeated Larned team 31-21.
Webcast of this game can be heard tonight on Salina Post.

After the games tonight, go to Salina Post for complete league scores and an audio game wrap of the Southeast of Saline/Minneapolis.
