Dwight C. Sheets, 77, of Assaria, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012. He was born March 27, 1935, in Downs to Charles and Minnie (Sheetz) Sheets.

Dwight graduated from Downs High School in 1953 and married Charlotte Humes on May 13, 1956. He worked as a barber for 50 years. Dwight was passionate about his family, his animals and any and all sporting events.

Preceded in death by: parents; and a sister, Luella Lee. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; daughter, Lynn (Brian) Slack, of Andover; son, Alan (Jeanette), of Belleville; grandchildren, Melissa and Brett Slack, Jaclyn, Joni and Audrey Sheets.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at First United Methodist Church, Salina. Memorials are to the Salina Animal Shelter.

Paul Marfise, 91, of Salina, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2012. He was born Jan. 25, 1921, in Fairview, Pa., the son of Antonio and Angelina Marfise.

Paul was inducted into the United States Army on July 16, 1942. He served under Gen. George S. Patton’s 3rd Army, 4th Armored Unit in Europe. He went into the Normandy Beach Invasion in France and served in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Africa and Italy. He received the American Theater Services Medal, EAME Theatre Service Medal, Victory Medal and four Bronze Stars. In Salina, he belonged to the VFW and DAV

Paul worked as a long-haul truck driver, Greyhound driver and as a machine operator for Federal Mogul and Metalcast of Salina.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Adeline; son, Paul Eugene Marfise; and a brother, Dominic.

He is survived by his son, Michael (Tina) Marfise, of Hope; and two daughters, Carolyn Metzgar, of Smolan, and Debra Marfise, of Newville, Pa. Paul has 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at Franklin Cemetery, Tescott. Visitation will be from noon-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the DAV or Salina VFW Post 1432.
