Growing up I heard the phrase “United we stand divided we fall”. It is part of Kentucky history and the words are in the center of the Kentucky State flag. My grandmother was often heard quoting similar words with the bible verse “A house divided against itself can not stand” (Mark 3:25).
I have thought of these words numerous times in the last four years, even more now in the last year with the presidential election in less than two months. We have a president in office that has divided our great nation as no other before him has done. He has done this through actions and words. He has pitted the “have not’s’ against the “haves”. In his mind there has been a great injustice between not just the people of the United States, but the United States and the rest of the world.
Obama has implemented another historical phrase : “ Divide and conquer”.
It is obvious he also feels he is a victim of this injustice. Were there any unjust acts in his life? Sure his father abandoned him, his mother dumped him off on the grandparents at age ten and basically never went back to get him. He is not the first child to suffer this type of injustice. For some this was not an injustice but a pathway to a better life. Some realize this, and others like the president do not see it in that light. Instead they spend their lives hell bent on leveling the playing field even at the cost of others.
What has this cost our great nation, if we can even call our nation that anymore. We now hold a double A credit rating (https://www.cnbc.com/id/49037337/US_Credit_Rating_Cut_by_Egan_Jones_Again) we held a triple A+++ for as long as I can remember. On average the credit rating agencies have downgraded our great nation. He has consistently borrowed from Peter to pay Paul and it has placed our great nation in debt and weakened our security. He who holds the purse strings holds the power. We are barely, if that, hanging on to those strings. Not to mention his constant apologies to our enemies for the evil America.
It is a constant barrage of arguments of those who support Obama and those who do not. It is not just the Democrats and the Republicans, but in the news media, it is on social web sites, local and national opinion forums, amongst friends and families as well. In our town the Salina Post more than likely has the most arguments when there is a political opinion story to be read. The results are viscous name calling attacks by some, most of these attacks are by the supporters of Obama. Is this because they know they do not have what it takes to back him up? How could anyone support him based upon his actions and where he has placed our great nation?
If he was to win another four years how divided will we become? Have we allowed him to make us forget we are citizens of the United States with what should be one purpose of keeping our country safe and prosperous? We have neither of those after four years of his hope and change. Was his idea of hope and change to: Change our great nation into a weak nation and hope we bought into his lies? Or even worse hope it was too late to recover when we did realize what he was doing?
It is not too late, we have hard work ahead to recover from the damage of the last four years. It is not time for hope and change, it is time to be united and not let our country fall. We can make a difference in November and maintain ( or recover) our status as a great nation. Do not let him divide us anymore, UNITED WE STAND!
