In the first days after a breast cancer diagnosis there are often more questions than answers. Do I need surgery, or chemo or both? Will I lose my breasts? Will I miss work? The answers often come after more research is done and a team of specialty physicians collaborate on the findings.
To educate the public about the treatment process, the Tammy Walker Cancer Center’s Women’s Cancer Support Group is hosting a free discussion entitled “What Salina has to offer,” at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the Tammy Walker Cancer Center conference room, 511 S. Santa Fe, Salina.
The evening will begin with a survivor story that showcases local services available such as genetic testing, surgery, radiation, clinical trials, breast reconstruction and prevention initiatives. Physicians from Mowery Clinic, the Tammy Walker Cancer Center, Salina Regional Surgical Associates and Salina Surgical Art Center will be on hand to answer questions and offer additional information. Light refreshments will be provided. The event is open to anyone with interest in breast health and those who want to learn more about breast cancer treatment services available in Salina.
