Ok, tonight will be worth watching just to prove the media is in charge of these debates. In round one, the moderator dropped the ball by not putting Romney in a position where he would step on his…….whatever. I am sure that upset Obama, who looked like he didn’t want to be there. After all he is who he is and why should he be subjected to answering questions about his presidency.
Then there was the vice presidential (no consequence) debate. The ABC moderator was there to baby sit Biden and to keep him under control while interupting Ryan when he was making a positve point, and changing the subject when Biden was close to stepping on his…..whatever.
Tonight CNN’s Candy Crowley will call on the so called “undecided” voters to ask questions they have submitted. The key here is, Candy has the right to pose followup questions on the question. This is important if one or the other candidates are in trouble with their answer or if they are not going in the right direction according to the projected outcome, as seen by CNN, the media and the administration. If one is to believe the polls, Romney has really picked up most of the undecided vote. That means, Candy will have a tough job wording her followups and the audiences questions to allow the great prevaricator to work his magic.
Any questions about the administrations successes will include the Bin Laden killing, the illegal bail out of the auto industry, and the health care act. Those are the only positives in 4 years. If a president has the House Senate and White House for two years why wouldn’t one ask, why there was no budget, why more of his promises were not kept, and why the deficit kept growing by a trillion dollars each year.
Look for Candy and the people to attack Romney. They will want him to be more specific on how he will fix the problems. Obama will not have to explain anything because he has said he will continue to do the same things because they are working…..and he has ocean front property in Arizona for you to buy.
The problem with “How will you questions” is the answer usually centers on how things will be 10 to 15 years down the road. That is not an answer. We want fixes NOW, but we don’t want to sacrifice anything to achieve them, so most politicians hem and haw when it comes to “how will you” questions. Remember, in 10 to 15 years there will be three presidential elections. If Obama wins, he will have 4 more years to accomplish what he wants, but in the next 6 to 11 years, many of the things Obama promised will be tossed aside. Questioners need to keep in the present, not look down the road, and so do the candidates, but this is not the recipe for success.
Have a good evening. I will be watching the CW.
