UPDATE: Gusts Reach 51 MPH In Salina

UPDATE: Wind gusts have reached 51 MPH in Salina Thursday.

A potent storm system near the Great Lakes region will bring very windy conditions across the area later this morning into the afternoon.

Winds in central Kansas will be around 40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. These types of wind speeds can cause minor property damage. Winds elsewhere will be generally 25-35 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

These strong winds combined with low relative humidity and cured grasses will create dangerous fire conditions over central and south central Kansas. Please see the high wind warning, wind advisory, and red flag warning products for more details.

  • TODAY: Sunny, with a high near 63. Windy, with a west northwest wind 24 to 29 mph increasing to 31 to 36 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph.
  • TONIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 40. Breezy, with a west northwest wind 17 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.
