K-State jumps Oregon for No. 3 spot in BCS standings

Kansas State’s blowout victory over West Virginia on Saturday provided immediate returns Sunday night when the new Bowl Championship Series standings were announced.
The Wildcats jumped Oregon and moved up to No. 3, behind top-ranked Alabama and Florida. The Ducks came in at No. 4 and Notre Dame rounded out the top five.
Six weeks remain in the college football season, but K-State is in great shape to make a run at the BCS national championship game from its current position. The Crimson Tide and the Gators can’t both win out. They appear destined to meet for the SEC championship, with only the winner likely advancing to play for the BCS title.
If the standings don’t change between now and a potential Alabama-Florida showdown, K-State will be next in line to face a SEC team in the BCS title game.
The Wildcats, ranked fourth in the Associated Press top 25 behind No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Oregon and Florida, already own impressive road victories over No. 8 Oklahoma and No. 25 West Virginia, and will get the chance to add another quality win to their resume against No. 15 Texas Tech on Saturday.
