Obituary 29 October, 2012

 

Arlen Laurence Keith, 71, of Salina, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012. He was born April 19, 1941, in Salina to Arthur Laurence and Ethel Marie (Thiel) Keith.

He was a graduate of Salina High School, Kansas State University and received his master’s degree from Springfield College in Springfield, Mass. He served in the United States Navy and was a member of the Grand Canyon Chapter of the Association of YMCA Retirees.

For 15 years, he worked as a YMCA physical director in Salina, Tacoma, Wash., Leominster, Mass., and Boulder, Colo. He then worked for Blue Beacon and the American Cancer Society. Later, he worked as a recruiter and served as the Dean of Students for Brown-Mackie College. Before retiring, he worked as an activity specialist for the Kansas Department of Corrections in Lansing and Ellsworth.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elizabeth Varney. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; two sons, Cameron M. Keith, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Jason M. Keith, of Orlando, Fla.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, where the family will receive friends.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at the mortuary, with the Rev. Mike Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina.

The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association, in care of the mortuary.
