OPINION: The Party Or The People

By John Fedele

It’s getting down to crunch time. On Tuesday, the nation will go to the polls and vote on a myriad of issues and for candidates ranging from Dog Catcher to President of the United States.

For what seems like forever we have debated, debased, and dehumanized primary candidates and now the final two for the presidency. All things considered, our vote will not be for who becomes president, but if we are voting for THE PEOPLE or THE PARTY.

One of the trends in American elections, during my lifetime, is that the American electorate has always controlled the government by insuring that no party had control of everything. It is the one and only true checks and balance. However, that is slowly disappearing, as the political parties become more and more determined to control the country.

The Democrat party is the strongest most determined, and best organized. They pretty much control the minds and hearts of their constituency by using tried and true methods of repetition, half truths, tell them what they want to hear, and promise the moon and stars.

The Republican Party, over the years, has become the “nice guy” party. In the hopes of winning elections, they play by the rules, and do all they can to avoid contrversy, (to the point of “eating” their own, hence the rise of the Tea Party). Of course that division plays into the hand of the Democrats….divide and conquer.

So, come Tuesday, Americans will have a choice. Not between Obama and Romney, but between the party and the people. A straight party ticket vote is a vote for the status quo. A people vote will ensure there is no house, senate, white house controlled government. Should that occur, democracy comes to a halt!

The President is one man/woman. He/she has no power except for a veto, or in recent cases , the ability to circumvent the Constitution because the Senate and House are so grid locked they cannot, or are not willing to stop the unlawful decisions. Think how bad things can be if one party controls the entire government.

The Supreme court the branches of government and the media are supposed to be the checks and balances to ensure government does not become a dictatorship. Past experiences show those elements have chosen sides, and it is the side of the party, not the people.

Take back control of the government on Tuesday. Vote for the people not the party!
