I’ve read and even been somewhat involved in the study of the cleanup at the former Schilling Air Force Base (who isn’t if you live here).
I’ve scoured the net looking for remediation standards/costs and come to a blatant conclusion, although optimism is a driving force, it’s also a blinder. There’s just no quick fix or even a possibility of a 3 year conclusion. That’s plain fraudulent.
Is this clean-up needed, YES, of course it is. However, after reading statements published through different media outlets there is a strong possibility that this burden will fall back on the citizens of Salina. That’s right, after everyones pockets are lined, and some move away for other employment, those left here will still have to foot the bill for this ON-GOING clean-up process. Even scarier is the fact that more or new problems will/can arise.
I present a link for you with a community already enduring this very process. Their expenses so far are about 5 times the amount of our predictions/proposed settlement.
Ask yourself some serious questions, then ask those involved. Does CYA come to mind, let’s only TRY to settle for the truth, no matter how ugly it turns out.
