On Friday, Salina City Manager Jason Gage presented the Saline County Commission a $200,000 offer by the city for repair or demolition of the Salina-Saline County Health Department building that was vacated earlier this year because of structural problems.
Gage told commissioners that presenting an offer at the public meeting was different and unusual but he wanted to let the public know that coming to a resolution was still being worked on.
Gage also said the city would like to terminate the joint maintenance agreement, leaving it to one entity, Saline County, to budget for maintenance.
Gage also said the city would help with the cost of repairs needed to the building damage that may have been done to shore up the roof.
Saline County Commission Chairman Jerry Fowler said he was disturbed that the presentation was made without the normal protocol.
Fowler and commissioner John Reynolds who will be leaving office in about two weeks, said it would be taken under advisement.
