1914109Shirley J. Wolf, 78, Bennington, passed away Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society – Minneapolis. She was born November 10, 1934 in Bennington to Don and Aggie (Shirley) Ross. Shirley was united in marriage with Theodore “Ted” Wolf on August 29, 1953 in Bennington. Shirley’s work career included secretarial positions at Schilling Air Force Base, Bennington High School, Monsanto, and Joe Mendicina real estate. She was an avid quilter and prior to her retirement she owned and operated The Quilting Bee. Shirley was a member of the Silver Needle Quilt Guild and the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; and sister Eleanor Barrett.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Ted; her children Jill Dunning and her husband Jim; Kurt Wolf and his wife Chris; Brad Wolf and his wife Kathy, and grandchildren Tiffany Trotter and her husband Christian, Jenna Wolf, Tessa Wolf, Brian Wolf and Brandi Wolf.

A come and go gathering of family and friends will be from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M., Friday, January 25, at the Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis; cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cove at the Good Samaritan Society – Minneapolis and may be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.

vet_ffffffJohn H. Bruce, 69, Salina, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2013 in Wichita. He was born July 1, 1943 in Concordia to Edward and Lela (McGowan) Bruce. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and he was a mail carrier for the Salina Post Office.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother Ruth Bruce.

 

Survivors include his brother Dean Bruce; sister Joyce Norman; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, January 23, at the Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 12 Noon Wednesday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salina Animal Shelter.

vet_ffffffHenry G. Thomas, 81, of Salina, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, in Dodge City. He was born Dec. 2, 1931, in Cullman, Ala., to Lonnie G. and Emily Inez (Easterwood) Thomas.

He served more than 20 years in the United States Air Force as a ground equipment technician, electrician and mechanic. He was a member of the V.F.W. and was a life member of the D.A.V.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kenneth Thomas; two sisters, Joyce Shafer and Louise Zinsmeister; and his brother, Kenneth James Thomas.

Survivors include three sons, Devin Thomas, of Salina, Kevin Thomas, of Wichita, and Randall Thomas, of Salina; two daughters, Karen Padilla and Denise Morgan, both of Salina; three sisters, Elenore Brown, of Hayesville, N.C., and Wynelle Ogletree and Ruth Gross, both of Arab, Ala.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina. A vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, Salina. Burial will follow in All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Salina.

The family suggests memorials to the Fort Dodge Soldiers Home, in care of the mortuary.

1914626vet_ffffffRichard G. Griffith, 81, Culver, passed away Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society – Minneapolis. He was born August 2, 1931 and was the son of Fred C. and Bessie (Burch) Shelby.

Richard was a 1951 graduate of Kipp High School and he served in the United States Air Force. He was united in marriage with Loretta Austin on June 15, 1958 in Salina. They made their home in Culver for many years until moving ot Delphos in 2011. Richard worked as a laborer for Western Auto and Advanced Auto Parts for 23 years. He was a member of the Church of the Cross in Salina.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers Bill Griffith and Fred L. Shelby.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Loretta of the home; children Rick Griffith and his wife Sandy of McPherson, Glennis Hughes and her husband Neill of Loveland, CO, James Griffith and his wife Sherry of Delphos, and George Griffith and his wife Denese of Salina; brothers Lee Griffith and Jim Shelby; sisters Betty Hartzell, Charlotte Leighton, and Anita Young; grandchildren Travis Sears and his wife Katie and their children Jordan, Jentry, Jaykin, and Jaxton, C.J. Sears and his wife Nicole and their children Carter, Ava, and Vivian, Zach Griffith, Cristina Hughes, Andy, Alisha, and Jacob Griffith.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 22 at the Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis. Burial will be in Culver Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. Monday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Society – Minneapolis.
