MOUNT HOPE — Ethlyn June Tacha, 91, formerly of Salina, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, in Mount Hope. She was born March 4, 1921, in Jennings, the daughter of Everett and Emma (Wheelock) Bainter.
Ethlyn had been a designer at Dwight Putnam’s and Don Loader’s in Salina. She was an active community member, participating in projects, both public and private, that promoted communityeducation and awareness of the need for equality. She took that compassion and dedication to her church, where she and her family were active for many years. A self-taught seamstress, Ethlyn was making quilts for her family until she could no longer see to stitch.
Ethlyn was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Tacha, in 2008; son, Thomas Craig Tacha; and a sister, Garrah Lillian Gaumer.
She is survived by a daughter, Toni Lynn Graham, of Wichita; brother, Virgil Boyd Bainter, of Hutchinson; daughter-in-law, Martha (Carlisle) Tacha, of Grand Island, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Bill Tacha, Anne Tacha, Lindsay Graham Frack, Katie Graham, Kelly Graham, Hanna Graham Hentzen, and Jeffrey Graham; and a great-granddaughter, Isabel Rhys Frack.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at First Baptist Church, 843 Lewis, Salina. Inurnment will be at a later date in Jennings. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church.
