swa30430vet_ffffffErnest V. Swanson, 92, of Salina, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013. He was born April 24, 1921, in Smolan to Edwin and Signe (Olson) Swanson. On July 14, 1944, he married Ila E. Turner.

He was a member of University United Methodist Church and VFW Post 1432. Ernest served in the United States Army 8th Air Force during World War II during which time he was a POW and Purple Heart recipient.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 68 years, Ila E.; daughter, Olivia; son, Clyde; granddaughter, Maria; grandson, Tony; and his brother, Warren.

Survivors include a daughter, Ina Swanson, of Salina; granddaughter, Stephanie Robertson and husband Jeffrey, both of Salina; and three great-granddaughters, Ashlee Payne, Jillian and Hailee Robertson, all of Salina.

There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at University United Methodist Church, Salina, with the Rev. Mike Rose officiating. Private inurnment will be at a later date. Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, is handling arrangements.

har30430CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Mary Anne Harris, 67, of Cape Coral, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family Tuesday, April 30, 2013, after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was born Jan. 12, 1946, in Davenport, Iowa, to William B. and Margaret A. (Lohf) Kelley Sr.

Mary Anne was a member of the 3rd Order Lay Carmelite since 1997 and a faith formation teacher for 40 years. She served as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion and made visits to the sick and homebound for many years. She loved to go to the movies.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, John B. Harris; son, Forrest Harris and wife Sheila, of Cape Coral; five daughters, Theresa Harris, of Salina, Kan., Laura Stein and husband Robert, of Spearville, Kan., Mary Bonner and husband William, of Edmond, Okla., Susan Branfort and husband Ryan and Anne Quintana, all of Salina; three brothers, Bill Kelley, of Florida, Ed Kelley, of Illinois, and Joseph Kelley and wife Rhonda, of Iowa; five sisters, Margie Urmie and husband Mike, Katie Randelman and husband Eric, Patty Cunningham and husband Doug, Colleen Kelley and Maureen Koepke and husband Larry, all of Iowa; 21 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 118 N. Ninth, Salina, with Father Gale Hammerschmidt officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, where a vigil service with rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Inurnment will be in St. John’sCemetery, Spearville, Kan., at a time and date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Salina, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, KS 67401.

C. Richard “Dick” Gerleman, 83, of Salina, died peacefully at home Thursday, April 25, 2013. He was born April 15, 1930, in Maydale, the son of Alfred James and Loretta (Rues) Gerle-man.

Dick worked as a certified life underwriter and independent life insurance agent for 54 years and was also an agent-manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.

He married Wilma M. Miller on June 24, 1950, in St Joseph’s Catholic Church, in Olpe. Dick was finance and debt retirement chairman for St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salina and was president of the Salina Noon Kiwanis Club. He established St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery and St. Joseph’s Catholic School endowments in Olpe.

Dick was preceded in death by five brothers, Ronald, Maurice, John, Kenneth and Gregory; and one granddaughter, Margo.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma, of Salina; two sons, Bruce and Brent (Angie), all of Des Moines, Iowa; two daughters, Brenda Gerleman and Barbara (Marvin) Autry, all of Wichita; three brothers, Gerald, Philip and James; nine grandchildren, Max, McKenzie, Jeb, Anna, Gretchen, Grant, Darren, Eli and Zoe; and one great-grandson, Graham.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 6, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Salina. A vigil service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the church.

Visitation and a prayer service will at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, in Olpe, with burial following in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials are to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Salina, or St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Olpe. Ryan Mortuary, Salina, is in charge of arrangements.
