The second half of the regular season starts tonight for the Salina Bombers as they travel to Topeka to play the Kansas Koyotes. The game tonight in the Capital City will be the third of four consecutive road games for the Bombers, so far, so good. Salina notched their second of two road wins last weeek in Kansas City, as the Bombers beat the Renegades, 47-31.
The win last week vaulted the Bombers into a tie for third in the CPIFL standings with Sioux City. The Wichita Wild lead the pack with the Omaha Beef in the second spot. The Bombers are the only team in the CPIFL that has yet to lose a road game.
While the defense has played well in the first half of the season, it is the offense for Salina that has come alive. In the first six games, the Bombers have outscored their opponents 248-208 and have racked up 1281 yards in total offense for an average of 213.5 per game. Quarterback Dane Simoneau was honored as the CPIFL Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the game at Kansas City. Simoneau threw ran just nine offensive plays in the first two quarters and racked up 28 points on four touchdown passes.
Offense has been the problem lately for the Koyotes, especially last week when they suffered a shut-out in a 48-0 loss to Bloomington. The Koyotes have been outscored this season 154-277, their only win was about one month ago versus the winless Mid-Missouri Outlaws.
The Bombers (4-2) look to get a victory tonight against the Koyotes (1-5) and head into Wichita to face the Wild next Saturday in a huge CPIFL match-up.
Salina Bomber Pregame starts at 6:30 pm tonight from Topeka on Salina Post and 99KG, kick-off is set for 7:05.
