Fireworks Source Of Several Small Fires

fireworksFirefighters have responded to several small fires that are fireworks related.

Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski says on Monday fire crews were sent to six fire calls between 4:00pm and 10:30pm.

While the fires were mostly small, it is belived that several were perhaps started by fireworks set off by 2 males in either their late teens or early 20s riding in a Dodge pickup either white or gray in color.

At most of the fires,either discharged or unused fireworks were found near the fires.

Most of the fires were in the eastern part of Saline County.

A 24-year-old Salina man was cited for discharging fireworks within 300 feet of a fireworks stand.

Steven Katz was cited for starting a small fire in a field in the 2600 block of S. Ohio.

Early Tuesday morning Salina Fire Department crews were sent to 1416 S. Santa Fe to a dumpster fire that was apparently started by a firecracker. Damage was estimated at $300.

Discharge of fireworks is legal in Saline County Through Friday. In the Salina city limits fireworks can be discharged on Wednesday and Thursday only.
