Salina Police released more information Thursday morning on a chase involving a stolen van Wednesday afternoon.

Lt. Scott Siemsen said officers were sent to the area of the 600 block of E. Prescott around 1:25p.m. on the report of a man trying to get into cars. Officers responded but did not locate the man.

About 20 minutes later a van belonging to Reid Plumbing of Manhattan was stolen from the parking area of Salina Family Health Care in the 600 block of E. Prescott, and was spotted by an officer at Crawford and Ohio.

When the officer tried to pull the van over, it sped away and the chase began and lasted around a half hour.

Lt. Siemsen said the chase went out of Salina and then back into town, and at times speeds were at 70-80 miles per hour.

The chase ended on I-70 about a mile east of the Ohio Street interchange after stop sticks deployed at the interchange flattened tires on the van.

The suspect 30-year-old Cody Lott of 1416 Quincy was booked into the Saline County Jail on charges including fleeing and eluding, theft, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. The aggravated assault was for swerving at an officer deploying the stop sticks.

The keys had been left in the van. Members of the Salina Police Department, Saline County Sheriff’s Office, and Kansas Highway Patrol were involved in the pursuit.
