3 p.m. Saturday (AP) — A man has died after jumping off a roadway bridge in Salina.

Lt. Gerald Shaft, with the Salina Police Department, says a driver saw a man standing on the Broadway viaduct Friday morning. When the motorist looked back, the man was gone.

Shaft says the driver turned his vehicle around, stopped and saw the man lying on the ground below the bridge with a rope around his neck. Shaft says the rope was too long, stretched or became detached from the bridge and the man hit the dirt road below.

Lt. Scott Siemsen says the man died from his injuries after being taken to a local hospital. His name was not released.

A man was taken to the hospital after falling from the Broadway overpass this morning at approximately 11:30 am.

There are reports that someone saw him standing on the bridge with something around his neck. The person then looked again and he was gone.

The Salina Post did contact Lt. Siemsen with the Salina Police Department. He stated, “Still under investigation, nothing solid yet.”

At this time we do not have the identity of the man.
