A Salina church learned Thursday morning that a van belonging to the church was stolen, after they were contacted by police in Hastings, Nebraska.

Lt. Scott Seimsen of the Salina Police Department said the van was taken from the Church of Christ at 1646 N. 9th between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. The church had also been broken into, rummaged through, but nothing was apparently taken. The church learned that the van was gone after the Hastings Police contacted them following a check they had done on the van.

The van was taken after the steering column had been damaged and hot-wired. The van is valued at $1,000, and damage to the door of the church is listed at $500.

The burglary at the church and theft of the van may also be connected to another burglary at a business at 1615 N. 9th during the same time period. Someone had pushed a window air conditioner unit out of a window to gain entry, but nothing was taken. A Chevy Blazer in front of the business had been tampered with damage to steering column. Damage is estimated at $1,000.

Two men found near the van in Nebraska were taken into custody, and could face burglary charges in Salina.
