Introducing BANK VI Hero of the Week Bryan Anderson

Bryan Anderson works with homeless and displaced families through the Ashby House, he has been doing so for 18 years.

Bryan said that the key is support, employment preparation, finding them a house and building self-esteem. “The goal is to get them feeling like they are part of the community.”

Some of the main causes of being displaced are education, mental illness, substance abuse and domestic violence. “Homelessness is a symptom of what is going on in their life.”, Bryan stated. We dig down to find out what caused the homelessness, we look at what is underlying and work with them in that area. Long term improvement is the ultimate goal.

Bryan did speak highly of education in regards to battling homelessness. He said it is very rare for someone with an education to be in this situation and that primarily the people who are needing help don’t even have a high-school diploma. Education is an area we really push, finishing high school and even going forward into college or vo-tech.

Bryan has dedicated nearly two decades of his life to helping those in the community who are struggling to regain footing and contribute to the community themselves. It is for this reason Bryan Anderson was chosen as BANK VI Hero of the Week!
