It’s been a while since there has been a clean sweep in the Saline County rivalry between Southeast of Saline and Sacred Heart. That changed on Tuesday night. Southeast was able to defend their home floor and get victories in the girls and boys games.

In the girls contest, SES sprinted out to a 10-0 lead. Sacred Heart was able to close that game and trail by only 4 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Lady Trojans would work the inside, outside game. Erica Montgomery went for 9 points working the lane area and Linzy Kaniper hit three 3-pointers in the quarter. SES would lead 30-18 at halftime and cruise on to a 52-34 victory.

Montgomery would lead all scorers with 20 points and 11 rebounds, Kaniper had 9 points and Kylee Thaxton finished with 8 points and 8 rebounds for SES.

Southeast of Saline is now 5-1 on the season, 1-1 in NCAA play. Sacred Heart is now 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the league.

The nightcap would feature two state-ranked teams in Class 3A. Sacred Heart (6-1) came in ranked 6th in the state and Southeast of Saline (5-1) entered ranked 10th.

SES would score first and take an early 2-0 lead but Sacred Heart would come back and take a 4-2 lead. That would be the last time the Knights would be out front. A solid defensive effort from the Trojans would help them build a 12 point, but Sacred Heart would come back by hitting the boards and would trail by only 3 at halftime, 28-26. The Trojans turned it up again defensively in the 3rd quarter and held the Knights without a filed goal until Brooks Brown got loos for a layup in the last minute of the quarter.

Southeast led by 10 at the end of the 3rd and eventually won by a score of 59-39.

Ben Stutterheim shook off a leg injury to lead the Trojans with 19 points, Kendal Peterson had 15, Easton Montgomery finished with 11.

Southeast of Saline will travel to Minneapolis on Friday. The games will be hear on 99KG.
