KWU’s Smith named KCAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

unnamedKansas Wesleyan’s Alecia Smith has been named as the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her efforts in two games for the Coyotes last week.
Smith helped the Coyotes to a 1-1 record last week, as the Coyotes narrowly lost on the road at No. 25 Friends on Thursday and picked up a road victory at McPherson on Saturday.

On Thursday in Wesleyan’s 67-65 loss to No. 25 Friends, Smith had 15 points and 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. On Saturday in the Coyotes’ 71-63 win over McPherson, Smith scored a season high 22 points and pulled down nine rebounds. It was the fifth time this season Smith has passed the 20-point mark in a game.

For the week she averaged 17.5 points and 10 rebounds per game for the Coyotes.

Smith ranks third in the KCAC in scoring average (15.3), fourth in the conference in rebounding average (8.1) and fifth in the league in field goal percentage.

The Coyotes (8-9, 3-3 KCAC) are in action this week hosting archrival Bethany at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Bethel on Saturday at 5 p.m.
