Four teens are facing charges in connection with an incident Sunday afternoon at the Central Mall. The following information has been released by the Salina Police Department:

On Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 1:54p.m. , Salina Police Department officers and Salina Fire Department medics were dispatched to the Central Mall, 2259 S. 9th Street, in reference to a report of a juvenile who had been involved in an altercation and was bleeding.

During the course of the investigation, officers determined that 17-year-old Joshua Downey was sleeping on a piece of furniture in the mall common area. 20-year-old Donavon Peet, two 13-year-old males and one 12-year-old male started to “mess” with Downey. They began to slap and hit Downey on the head and arms and one of them spit on Downey’s head.

When Downey woke up, he chased and caught one of the 13-year-olds. Downey produced a set of hard plastic, spiked knuckles from his pocket, placed them on his right hand, and hit him with the knuckles and his bare fists several times. Bystanders removed Downey from him.

Officers arrested 17- year-old Joshua Downey of Tescott, who was later placed in the juvenile detention facility at Junction City. Charges of Aggravated Battery, Criminal Use of a Weapon, Possession of Marijuana, and Disorderly Conduct were requested.

The 13-year-old was treated at Salina Regional Heath Center for contusions to his face and head and a laceration to his right temple. The 12-year-old and two13-year-olds will be referred to Saline County District Court for charges of Battery and Disorderly Conduct.

Officers also issued a citation for Disorderly Conduct to 20-year-old Donavon Peet.
