Over the past six months Salina Police have been taking an increased number of reports on the thefts of pickups, trailers, motorcycles and atv’s, and they want to encourage people to better secure their property.

Captain Mike Sweeney said the number of thefts are not only going up in Salina and Saline County, but surrounding areas as well.

Sweeney said the thefts have been of those parked on streets on in yards, and parking lots at commercial establishments and motels.

Police recommend that parking the items in an enclosed building, or have them out of sight. Do not leave keys in or near the vehicles Also purchase high-end locks that cannot be cut .
