The Saline County Citizens for Responsible Government, finding Mike Huckabee an unsuitable selection for the Chamber of Commerce banquet speaker, offers Salina area citizens an alternative.

The event, “Huckabee’s values are NOT Salina’s family values,”  will be held at Martinelli’s Little Italy, 6:30 p.m, Thursday, February 6.   A $10 suggested donation will cover costs.   Cash bar will be available.

The event will feature entertainment, comedy skits and readings in the voices of the people, including several area college students.   An open mic will be available for short statements offering inclusive and unifying citizens’ visions for the future.

A special ceremony will offer the opportunity to burn, not bras, but tickets to the Huckabee event.  “Even before Huckabee’s recent infamous statements,” said Janice Norlin, organizing committee member,  “he was widely seen as unhelpful and inappropriate as a speaker to promote the Chamber’s—and our—goal of making Salina ‘a better place to live and work.’   We hope this fun event will offer citizens an alternative and also be helpful in meeting that goal.”
