In anticipation of large accumulations of snow between February 4 and 5, 2014, the Abilene City Manager hereby declares a Snow Emergency pursuant to Section 5-406 of the City Code.
Per Section 5-408 of the City Code, all vehicles parked on the street on the following streets are required to be removed from the public right-of-way within two hours of this declaration. Any vehicle parked, disabled or stalled on an emergency snow route after such time may be removed or caused to be removed by the City. Recovery of all vehicles so removed shall not occur until all towing and storage charges have been paid in full by the vehicle owner.
Parking of vehicles on emergency snow routes during a declared snow emergency shall be prohibited until such time as the declaration is in effect.
The City of Abilene has designated the following emergency snow routes: 1) NW 3rd Street from Buckeye Avenue to Van
Buren Street; 2) NW 10th Street from Buckeye Avenue to Brady Street; 3) Buckeye Avenue from the north city limits to the
south city limits; 4) E. First Street from Buckeye Avenue to the east city limits; 5) N. Brady Street from E. First Street to
NW 21st Street; 6) N. 14th Street from the east city limits to Vine Street; 7) Washington Street from NW 3rd Street to the
Abilene Municipal Airport; 8) NW 21st Street from N. Brady Street to Buckeye Avenue; 9) N. Cedar Street from NW 3rd
Street to NW 14th Street; 10) NW 10th Street from Buckeye Avenue to N. Cedar Street; and 11) the 1000 block of N. Brown
Street.
Per Section 5-409 of the City Code, all vehicles shall also be removed from the following streets within the Central Business
District between 7:00 pm and 7:00 am: 1) N. Spruce Street, N. Broadway Street, and N. Cedar Street from NW 2nd Street
to NW 5th Street; 3) Kirby Street, from NW 3rd Street to NW 4th Street; 4) N 3rd Street and N. 4th Street, from Kirby Street
to Cedar Street; and 5) NW 5th Street, from Buckeye Avenue to Cedar Street.
This declaration shall remain in effect until ended by declaration from the City Manager. The City of Abilene will maintain
essential public services throughout the anticipated snow event.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions to protect themselves during the anticipated snow event during the next
few days. Residents are advised to prepare an emergency kit with adequate food, water and supplies for at least 72 hours.
Residents should minimize travel and carry an emergency travel kit if travel is necessary. Residents should maintain
adequate blankets and clothing to keep warm in the event of a power outage. The City of Abilene appreciates the public’s cooperation on this matter.
