Obituary 12 March, 2014

vet_ffffffMarvin L. Bennett, 67, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014 after a long illness. He was born November 20, 1946 in Clay Center to Virgil and Ruth (Norton) Bennett.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Ruth Bennett of Abilene, KS. His survivors are wife LaDonna, children Brent Bennett (Sheri) from Nashville, TN and Kelley (Josh) Tuel from Olathe, KS. He has two grandchildren, Bennett and Hadley Tuel of Olathe; two brothers, Keith (Virginia) Bennett of Salina and Robert (Carolyn) Bennett of Alta Vista, KS. He has 15 nieces and nephews and 26 great nieces and nephews.

Marv graduated from Abilene High School and Fort Hays State College where he was a Sigma Phi Epsilon. Marv was a record-setting runner in his earlier days and was named Abilene 1964 “Cowboy Joe.” He served in the Army Reserve during Vietnam. He was a member of Salina Civitan Club, volunteering at the River Festival. Marv cherished his Trinity United Methodist Church family, serving on many boards, teaching Sunday School, and as an active member of the Sunday Morning Pew Boys Club. He retired from Motion Industries where he enjoyed lasting friendships with many customers. He loved woodworking and spent his free time at his farm near Abilene. He was a hunter, enjoying the outdoors and camping with family. Marv recently realized his life-long dream of owning a Harley.

A celebration of Marv’s life is scheduled for 11 am on Saturday, March 15 at Trinity United Methodist Church (901 E. Neal Ave., Salina). Family may be greeted following the celebration service. Cremationis being attended by Ryan Mortuary so there will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to Trinity United Methodist Church (901 E. Neal; Salina, KS 67401) or Talmage United Methodist Church (2972 Francis St., Talmage, KS 67482).
