The Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship of Salina has recently adopted, by a unanimous vote of the membership, the following statement regarding marriage equality:
“We, the members of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Salina, Kansas, in light of our religious and moral principles and commitment to human rights, hereby declare full support for Marriage Equality for couples of any gender identity or sexual orientation, and call for the State of Kansas to legally recognize same-sex marriage.”
Barb Gutsch, president of the group, said that the statement is consistent with longstanding UU principles, including a belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every person and a search for justice and compassion in human relations. “This statement supporting marriage equality is a way of bringing our principles to bear on current issues.”
The Salina fellowship has been designated a “Welcoming Congregation” by the Unitarian Universalist Association and invites all to participate, regardless of race, color, ethnic or national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender expression, age, class, physical character, or disability.
The fellowship is located at 901 Beatrice, in Salina, and meets each Sunday morning at 9:15 for a discussion/ forum and at 10:30 for regular services.
