Two traffic stops for speeding Sunday evening on I-70 result in three people arrested for possession of marijuana they had purchased in Colorado.
Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said just before 8p.m. a deputy running radar stopped a car going 89-miles-per-hour eastbound about five miles east of Salina. The deputy noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car and called for the K-9 unit. A search of the car found 13-ounces of marijuana in bottles and baggies. Charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia was 32-year-old Alfonso Berger of Overland Park. Berger was booked into and released from the Saline County Jail. Three passengers in his car were not charged.
Then just before 9:30p.m. a deputy stopped a car going 91-miles-per-hour eastbound four miles west of Salina on I-70. After noticing a smell of marijuana, a search of the car found three smoking pipes with residue, chocolate chip cookies with THC, and small containers of a green vegetation. Arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were two Florrissant Missouri residents, 30-year-old Carnell Billups, and 23-year-old Arlene Mulligan.
Sheriff Kochanowski said all of the marijuana that was seized was purchased in the Denver area.
