A Salina man was treated for a gunshot wound to his index toe on his left foot, after a handgun he had just purchased earlier Monday afternoon went off in a car.

Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said a deputy was sent to the emergency room of Salina Regional Health Center around 6p.m. where 28-year-old Antonio Johnson was being treated.

Johnson said he had just bought the .45 handgun at a pawn shop and along with a friend went out into the country east of Salina to shoot the gun.

As they were coming back into town, they were handling the gun, which had one shell in the chamber discharged, striking Johnson in the left foot.

The incident occurred about 3p.m. Monday afternoon.
