Hot Sunday in central Kansas

thermometerRecord highs were set Sunday in Wichita and Salina. The high in Salina was 96 degrees which broke the record of 95 degrees set just two years ago in 2012.

Wichita set a new record of 102 degrees that shattered the old May 4th record of 94 degrees set in 1963.

This is also the earliest date since records have been kept in Wichita that the temperature has hit triple digits. The old record was May 9th 2011. The earliest triple digit high for Salina was established on April 23rd of 1989 when the high was 105 degrees.

While the high in Salina is expected to remain below 90 degrees on Monday, the forecast is calling for highs in the middle 90s Tuesday and Wednesday, before rain chances and cooler temperatures are expected by the end of the week.
