mcc40503Duane Eugene McCall, 84, of Bavaria, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014. He was born Saturday, Oct. 26, 1929, to Seba and Alice McCall.

Left to celebrate his life are his wife of 66 years, Edna Mae; daughters, Rachel (Tom), Alice (Bill) and Ellen; son Mike (Robin); grandchildren: Shane, Ryan, Andria, Chad, Megan, Shelley and Rex; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Kayson, Kennady, Gavin, Leighton, Nolan, Lyrik and Micah; brother, Dale and sister-in-law, Ella.

Preceded in death by both parents; brothers, Darwin, Dan, Barlow, Herschel and Virgil; and sisters Opal, Erma and Marie.

A family man, Duane spent life farming and building a home. Duane and Edna Mae married in Culver in 1948. They resided on the McCall farmstead, where Duane grew up, until 1961, when they moved to Bavaria. He was a lifelong farmer in Saline and Ottawa counties. He frequented the elevator to share coffee and conversation with neighbors and friends. He loved watching the news, Lawrence Welk, Bill Gaither and Westerns. Duane cared deeply for his family and often attended events involving the family members.

Funeral service for Duane will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, at Church of The Cross, Salina. Burial: 2 p.m. at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation: from 4-8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5-6:30 p.m., Monday, May 5, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Memorials: CulverUnited Methodist Church, in care of Ryan Mortuary.

Barbara Sue Wilson, 68, of Salina, passed away Friday, May 2nd, at Salina Regional Health Center.

Barbara was born in Abilene, Kansas on May 16, 1945, to the late Cleo (Davies) and Charles Wilson.

Barbara was a homemaker.

Survivors include her brother, Michael Wilson, of Billings, Montana; sisters, Lois Sleichter, of Abilene, Kansas, Cheryl Becker, of Cotati, California, and Joyce Harp, of Warsaw, Missouri; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, and two sisters.

Cremation has been chosen and there will be no visitation. Graveside memorial services will be at Abilene Cemetery on a later date.

edw40501Robert E. (Bob) Edwards, 77, of Salina, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014. He was born April 1, 1937, in Ponca City, Okla., the son of Ernest and Anna (Rittaler) Edwards.

Bob was a graduate of Wichita State University with a master’s degree in music. He began his orchestra teaching career in Liberal and spent the majority of his time with Salina School District. He had a total combined 33 years doing what he loved most.

He also touched many lives providing private lessons and spent many hours repairing instruments.

He was inducted into the Sacramento Western Swing Hall of Fame in 2000.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jim, and his first wife, Connie.

Survivors include: his wife, Donna; daughters Kris Wills, of Pueblo, Colo., Tiffany Swanson, of Salina, and Darci Ledford and husband Tommy, of Argyle, Texas.

Bob and Donna have five grandchildren: Taylor Swanson, Dalton and Dane Ledford, and Skylar and Rhiannon Wills.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Christ Cathedral, 138 S. Eighth, Salina 67401, or The Creede Repertory Theatre, 1408 Rio Grande, Creede, CO 81130.

A Celebration of Life ceremony is from 4-8 p.m. today, May 4, at Ryan’s Funeral Home, 137 N. Eighth, Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.

A memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, at Christ Cathedral.

Jimmy J. Cooper, 73, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at his home in Salina. He was born Sept. 14, 1940, in Salina, to Paul and Esther (Young) Cooper.

Jimmy attended Salina High and graduated in 1958. He attended Kansas Wesleyan University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business. Jimmy had a passion for music. He played the guitar in many local dance bands including The BJ4 and a national recording group, The Markett’s. He also played in the worship band at his church for many years. Jimmy was the founder and co-owner of Accounts Receivable Services. He was a member of First Nazarene Church in Salina, ACA and KCA, of which he was a past president.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Rita, of the home; son, Brad Cooper, of Salina; daughter, Paula Cooper, of Denver; granddaughters, Brandi and David Trussell. of Denver, and Kelli Jaggers, of Topeka.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Esther Cooper.

Jimmy was a people person and others were easily drawn into conversations with him. Some of his favorite topics were the ’60’s rock scene of which he was a part with the Marketts. He would easily share about a song or the group’s history not only for the ’60s, but any music from musicals to rock to jazz, or even country. For the past 15 years, his favorite band was the First Nazarene worship team as well as special music for church events and funerals. He enjoyed playing in church and giving praises to God, using his gifted natural talents of playing guitar and singing.

funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 3, at First Nazarene Church, with Jon Fillipi officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Ryan Mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m..
