Search continues for suspect in several vehicle thefts Friday

saline county sheriffs PatchThe Saline County Sheriff’s Office said they are looking for a known suspect who stole two cars in Salina Friday evening, tried to steal two other cars in Assaria, and finally stole a pickup near a field south of Assaria. Sheriff’s Captain Roger Soldan said the suspect is a white male about 30-years of age and a Salina area man.

The man began the theft of cars around 7pm, by stealing a car of a Salina woman, after he went into her home and stole the keys to her 2011 Subaru Legacy and her purse. A few minutes later the man walked into Long McArthur Ford on S. 9th , acted nervous, and left.

The dealership noticed a few minutes later that a 2013 Lincoln MKS was missing. Police recovered the Subaru at the dealership.

Then just before 8pm the man tried to take two cars from homes in Assaria but left after being confronted by the owners of the cars. The man drove away from the second home in the Lincoln through a field.

Around 8:11pm, the man dumped the Lincoln and was able to steal a 2007 Chevy pickup gray in color owned by Monsanto of Halstead, while the pickup was parked near a field in the 800 block of E. Sundgren Road. The truck valued at $20,000 is still missing. It was last seen near Lindsborg as law enforcement gave chase but lost the truck.

As of early Monday afternoon law enforcement was still looking for the suspect.
