Salina firefighters respond to a second house fire in just over three hours Wednesday afternoon.

Salina Fire Marshal Roger Williams said crews responded to the fire at North 13th and Woodland at 2:15pm. A nearby business owner walked out from his business and saw furniture sitting in the yard on fire, had someone call 9-1-1, and grabbed a fire extinguisher and tried to put the fire out.

The fire fanned by strong south winds spread quickly to the outside of the house and then extended inside the house. No one was home when the fire broke out.

Williams said the furniture was sitting outside after a yard sale over the weekend.

The cause of what started the fire in the furniture is still under investigation.

While no dollar figure is available for damage to the house and contents, it is believed to be extensive.
