Thursday UPDATE Fire officials say a Salina man died after being critically burned while trying to rescue two dogs from Wednesday’s house fire.
Salina Fire Marshall Roger Williams says the victim was injured in the fire Wednesday morning after he got one dog out of the burning home. He tried to go back in to the house for a second dog but first responders stopped him.
Update 3:30PM.
Salina Fire Marshal says the cause of the fire was accidental. It was determined that an electric problem with a large cooler in the garage was a source for the fire. The man who was injured, was flown to a Wichita hospital in critical condition with burns. One of two dogs inside the home at the time of the fire died.
11: 58 a.m. One person was injured in house fire on the southwest side of Salina late Wednesday morning.
Salina Fire Marshal Roger Williams said firefighters were dispatched to 160 Florida around 11am.
They found the home fully involved in fire on arrival.
One man who was in the home was taken to Salina Regional Health Center with reports of burns on the face hands and back. He was outside the home along a fence when EMS crews arrived.
There were two dogs in the home, one has been accounted for.
Damage to the home was extensive. Smoke from the fire was visible more than a mile away.

11:35 s.m. The fire has been extinguished. Crews continue to watch for hot spots.
One person was transported to the hospital for treatment. Two dogs were also reported inside the home at the time it started. No official word on what caused the fire.
