A Salina Police detective has been returned to duty following an investigation by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, in connection with an exchange of gunfire between the detective and a suspect in a domestic disturbance last Wednesday afternoon near Centennial Park.

Detective Scott Hogeland, and Master Patrol Officers Mike Miller, and Gary Hanus were shot at by 45-year-old Jose Carrillo, after he removed a rifle from a blanket and began shooting at the officers who were talking to 55-year-old woman who had left a house down the street after Carrillo had allegedly pointed the rifle at her.

The officers returned fire and Hogeland struck Carrillo twice, causing non life threatening wounds.

Hogeland was placed on administrative leave per policy and procedure of the Salina Police Department. Police Chief Brad Nelson requested the K.B.I investigate the incident. That investigation, which was concluded late last week, found no procedures were violated by Police.

Carrillo after being treated at the hospital was booked into the Saline County Jail on three counts of attempted first degree murder.
