Lawrence, KS. – After the 13th week of CPIFL action this season the playoff teams in the have been set, however the teams will continue to fight for home field advantage and the right to host Champions Bowl II. Individual players continue to perform in record setting fashion and four players have been recognized as CPIFL Players of the Week.
Offensive Player of the Week: Chris Coffin and Jared Elmore, Omaha Beef
This is the second time this season that Coffin has shared the Player of the Week award with a wide receiver from his own team. Coffin also shared the award in Week 5 with Anthony Parks. On Saturday vs. Bloomington Coffin matched his own league record with nine touchdown passes in the game. Coffin was 24-of-35 passing for 221 yards. In the game, Coffin also set a new CPIFL record for passing TD’s in a season with 47.
Elmore was on the receiving end of 13 Coffin completions for 128 yards and five touchdowns in the Beef’s 80-56 victory. Elmore has scored 15 receiving touchdowns this season which is tied for fourth in the league. Omaha closes their season this Saturday as they travel to Salina.
Defensive Player of the Week: Kendrick Harper, Wichita Wild
Harper and the Wild defense are allowing only 21.6 points per game since Harper returned from a stint in the AFL on May 3. On Saturday vs. Dodge City, Harper recorded seven tackles and returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown. The Wild defeated the Law by a score of 47-38. Harper has recorded six interceptions while playing in just six games for the Wild this season. Wichita hosts Sioux City in an important game for playoff seeding on Saturday.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Lorenzo Brown, Sioux City Bandits
Brown averaged 25.1 yards per kick return in Sioux City’s 72-40 victory over the Kansas Koyotes. Brown returned six kicks for a total of 151 yards including a 45-yard touchdown return in the second quarter. The Bandits lead the league with 18.8 yards per kick return. Brown is second in the league averaging 21.5 yards per kick return and has returned three kickoffs for a touchdown which leads the league. Sioux City visits Wichita on Saturday.
The final full week of action all takes place on Saturday featuring two games with playoff implications. Sioux City visits Wichita as both teams look to win the top spot in the playoffs and Omaha visits Salina as the Bombers look to stay alive for the #1 seed.
