There will be two contested elections in the August 5th primary in Saline County, and both of them will be on the Republican ballot. The deadline to file for office was noon Monday.

There are three candidates vying of the Republican nomination for the Saline County Commission 1st District seat. The candidates are Duane Flaherty, Monte Shadwick, and incumbent Randy Duncan, who will be seeking his 3rd term in office. Duncan is currently the County Commission Chair. The winner of the primary will face Democrat Stephanie Cool in the November general election.

One contested race on the Republican ticket for the Kansas Legislature. Tom Bell will face 1st term incumbent Diana Dierks. As of late Monday morning, there were no Democrat candidates for the district according to the Kansas Secretary of State office website.

In the 69th district it will be a rematch in November of the 2012 election with Republican J.R. Claeys facing Democrat Gary Swartzendruber.

In the 108th district incumbent Steven Johnson who is seeking a third term, will not have any opposition in both the primary and general election.
