SALINA — “A Heart for Caregiving,” a free seminar for caregivers and families of older Kansans, will be held Thurs., June 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Salina. The event is sponsored by the North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging and will be at Kansas Wesleyan University in room 203 of the Student Activity Center, 100 E. “Family caregivers are the powerhouses of love and care for older Kansans,” said Julie Govert Walter, Executive Director of the North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging. “Caregivers work hard and their lives are often full of anxiety and stress.”

“Our popular ‘Heart for Caregiving’ seminars give caregivers a break from their daily routines, fortify them with new friends and provide easy-to-understand health information and practical ideas that make their lives easier,” Walter said.

Caregivers who would like to attend, but can’t pay for the care their loved one needs on the day of the seminar, may apply for respite scholarships. These are available through the Agency. Those interested should call (800) 432-2703 for details.

Seminar topics include a session on caregiving for cancer patient, legal documents you need and stress relief techniques for caregivers.

The Salina Caregiver Seminar is one of four events for caregivers in the area sponsored by the Agency. The seminars are funded by the federal Older Americans Act and contributions. Lunch is provided free of charge to all participants. Free-will contributions are accepted.
